Moving to Bayswater - 5 Tips for a Stress-free Move | LondonManVan

Posted on 26/08/2014

Bayswater lies in the City of Westminster in central London, and is one of the most diverse regions of the city. If you’re planning a relocation to the W2 area, then there are a few useful tips you can use to make the process as stress free as possible.

Organisation

Planning a move can be quite time consuming, so taking steps a month or two in advance, or sooner if you can, to get things like removal companies vetted and booked can really help. Also, you should make a list of all the things you need to do to plan the move, and cross things off as you go. Try setting goals that can be achieved every week, and stick to a set schedule as much as possible. By having as much as possible organised, you’re far less likely to forget or miss important things as the move gets closer.

Clear out what you don’t need

If you have lots of old and unused items lurking in boxes or at the back of wardrobes, now is the perfect time to get rid of them. Most unused clothes or household items can be given to charity shops, or even given away to people who might want them on the internet. Furthermore, you can even sell old items. Any finances raised this way can then contribute to your moving costs. Good ways to sell old and unwanted items are many and varied: You could attend a local car boot sale, or sell your items on eBay for example. Ultimately, you will save a lot of space (and in turn removal costs), by clearing out what you don’t plan on taking with you.

Ask for help

Trying to do everything alone will quickly cause things to get on top of you and will not only cause stress but can potentially end up costing you money too. If you need help packing, then don’t be afraid to ask friends and family members. This applies to any aspect of your relocation. Getting someone to call removal companies while you review the quotes or focus on another aspect, for example, can be very time efficient and allow you to get more done than if you were alone.

Organise your packing

Make sure you pack in a coherent way that is easy to unpack when you have arrived at your new home. This can be done by simply making sure you label all boxes with where they need to go and what they contain. For example, cutlery could be labelled ‘cutlery – kitchen’, and so on. This way, you will be able to pack and unpack efficiently and will save lots of time and hassle.

Be ready for the unexpected

No matter how organised and prepared you think you are, you need to accept the possibility that things may go wrong due to unforeseen circumstances. Things rarely go exactly to plan, so try to remain adaptable whatever gets thrown at you. One way of doing this is to try to plan ahead as best you can for any unexpected problems. Include this possibility in your budget so you have some funds if you need them, and give yourself an extra day or two at either end of the move. This will allow you to react should unexpected events occur, and make your move far less stressful overall.
